What’s Japanese for Alcohol Free Beer?
There are a lot of things in life that I don’t understand. Way near the top of that list is alcohol free beer. Presumably the stuff is made for those that can’t or don’t want to consume alcohol but they still want a beer. So they drink this stuff which, by most accounts, is little more than a lame facsimile of the real thing. Nothing like a poor tease to slake one’s thirst!
The Japanese, however, don’t seem to have a problem with it. Kirin Free, which reportedly is 100% free of alcohol, has been flying off the shelves. So well is it selling that the big K had to take out newspaper ads apologizing for running out of their product.
“Product.” I can’t even bring myself to call it beer. Even Kirin can’t; they advertise the stuff as soda with a beer-like taste. Kinda makes me throw-up in my mouth a little bit.
So who’s drinking it? According to Kuniaki Tamai pregnant women and drivers are responsible for a lot of their sales.
